Smørrebrød and Aquavit
Experience aquavit, the “water of life,” as it’s meant to be; paired with traditional Danish open-faced sandwiches - smørrebrød - and draft beer from Anarkist or Nørrebro Bryghus. Our host will share the rich history of aquavit and its role in Danish culinary culture. A perfect blend of flavor and storytelling.
Come Join us
for an early afternoon built around flavour, craft, and the long Nordic tradition of aquavit. This master class gives you a slow and thoughtful introduction to our organic aquavits and snaps. Your host guides you through a tasting of Copenhagen Distillery’s selection, explains how each spirit is made, and shows how small changes in botanicals can shift the entire expression. You get time to taste, talk, and understand what is in your glass.
The smørrebrød for December's classes is created by Aamanns, known for raising the standard of smørrebrød and for their focus on organic ingredients. Their cooking brings clarity, balance, and a sense of place to each serving. Every piece of smørrebrød is built to match the spirits, and the same care goes into the risalamande dessert. The collaboration ensures a level of quality and innovation that fits the experience.
This informal lunch is for people who want to learn through taste. You get a direct sense of how botanicals shape a spirit, how food can support or challenge a flavour, and how a drink with deep roots can still feel modern. You leave with a clearer understanding of aquavit and a stronger appreciation for Nordic food culture. It is a calm and welcoming experience shaped by good ingredients, good guidance, and the time to enjoy both lies at the core of the spirit.
Aquavit has shaped the Nordic table for centuries. Its roots reach back to the 1500s, when it was traded as medicine and valued for the way it carried the taste of local plants. The idea was simple. Distil a clean spirit and infuse it with botanicals such as caraway or dill. Over time it became a natural part of meals, gatherings, and celebrations. When you taste aquavit today, you taste that long story of place and practice.
At Copenhagen Distillery we work with this heritage every day. Our aim is to keep the craft honest and to let each bottle speak clearly. We focus on organic ingredients, careful methods, and an understanding of what makes Nordic flavours distinct. This approach has been recognised in Denmark and abroad. Our aquavits and snaps have received awards for their structure and purity, just like our whiskies have earned international prizes for their depth and balance. These recognitions are not our main goal, but they show that steady work creates strong results.
